Strange mix of electrical problems
I have a 1999 dodge ram 3500 slt, engine dies when headlights turned on, starts fine otherwise... left side headlight very dim both high and low, left turn signal dash indicator lights with headlights, and when using the hazard lights it buzzes after a few flashes....also the can under the drivers battery clicks off and on with the hazard or left turn signal, ive already checked g100, g101, g102 all grounds and batts conn and interior kick panel ground. Inspected PDC connections in and out of cab. just about to blow it up...
Gotta be a short somewhere, that is sucking all the power when you turn the headlights on...... Normally, I would suggest checking the alternator, as they trucks pretty much require a functioning charging system to run right, I would guess that would apply to the diesels as well.....
I had the same turn signal problem. I think if you pull the bulb out of the housing, you will find that the blinking is not happening on the brighter filament - but the other one. Which is WAY wrong, and confused the crap out of me. BTW the can under the battery tray is the cruise control module. I fixed mine by grounding both front wires for the turn signals, just grounding one was not enough. That fixed my front parking light issue (not lighting up), and gave me back my proper filament turn signals (also stopped illuminating the indicators on the dash when I turned just my parking lights on).
I think the root of the problem is the massive ground mopar used on the front fender, just below that cruise control module. Mine was getting green. There are about 15 wires going to that big lug, and they're all smashed together to make one ground. I'm thinking that point is where the wires are corroded and causing poor ground issues.
