My tank light comes on at 5 gallons and "1/4" tank is actually 7 gallons. So get it as empty as possible then use some good floor jacks when dropping it.

Also a good time to replace the brake line behind the tank!

Thank you guys for the tips! When I do it I’ll run it til the gas lights comes on, when I drive home today I’ll see if my gas gauge moves crazy after I filled it up.

Put a full can of gas in the box so you don't have to walk. There are 2 sizes of tanks. You might have a 35 gallon tank. The sender can be bought separately but I'd put a new pump in if I had the tank out.

That’s what I was telling my wife, if I had the tank dropped, I don’t want to do the job twice so I’ll rather spend more money and replace the pump

And the pump would probably fail within a month , just after you relax and figure it'll be good for a few years. LOL

Default gas tank/brake line

Also a good time to replace the brake line behind the tank![/QUOTE]

Amen...to checking/changing out that rear brake line while the tank is down. The line in question runs from the front to the back along the driver's side frame rail where it collects lots of nasty corrosive stuff in a tight spot between the tank and the frame.. My line failed about a month after I changed the fuel pump.
Of course you can bend "roll your own" brake lines, but I found that the prices at SS tubes https://sstubes.com/brake-line-packages were good, so I replaced everything front and back with Stainless steel.

Thank you for link! I have let to check out my fuel pump, my fuel gauge is still reading wrong. It’s around the holidays and money is always tight, I plan on checking it, in the up coming year around January!
