Is this all really worth the expense, or would you be better off buying a more suitable vehicle?
Using diesel springs will fix that if I recall it only weighs 150 more pounds. The 5.7 didn't say it at all in my ram. I measured from the ground to the top of the wheel wells.

i would treat the swap the same as an engine swap into a 32 ford or a 55 chevy or a 69 barracuda. screw the factory harness and gauges. get a standalone ecu for the engine/tranny i'm sure they're out there... autometer makes some very nice gauges that are far better and more accurate than stock, should be plenty of room after removing the factory cluster for a custom cluster on aluminum. i think the accessories like ac, windows, lights, and locks should work without the factory computer. if not, leave it in and just cut off the engine and tranny wiring.

thats the direction i'm going if i still have this truck in 10 years. too many things holding it back stock. i don't like relying on someone to tune my rig or being locked out without software and equipment from companies that think our rigs are obsolete. only thing really keeping 2nd gens alive is the compatibility with the diesels.

Default 1997 ram 1500 5.9 - 1999 ram 1500 5.9

Hey guys I have a 1997 ram 1500 with a 5.9 automatic 4x4 ext cab short box and a built 1999 ram 1500 5.9 sport regular cab short box I want to swap the regular cabs engine and transmission/transfer case in my ext cab, is there anything I should know that Won’t line up, like wiring harness and dash/cluster. What would be the best way To swap it in. I see that the fuse boxes are completely two different sizes.

Engine would work if you use the 97 intake and sensors as some connectors may be different. Would need the 97 transfer case and internal transmission harness and would have to use the 97 computer, wiring, and gauges

Default 97 5.9magnum -99 5.9magnum

Everything on the 97 5.9 has the same connections as the 99 5.9 for the injectors and engine sensors haven’t got a chance to check the transmissions tho

97 has two coolant temp sensors, 99 only has one. T-case out of the 99 won't have the provision for VSS, so, can't use it.

Transmission harness may or may not have the same connectors, but you still need to use the 97 harness, I believe. Since the values and everything changed in 98

Default 5.2 to 5.9 swap - 5 speed manual tranny

I have a 97 Ram 1500 2WD 5.2 with a 5 speed manual transmission. How difficult would an engine swap be to go to a 5.9 from the 5.2?
