Default leveling kits and tires

I had a 2.5 inch Rough Country leveling kit installed on a 2000 dodge ram 1500. I still have factory 16' rims. RC says you will be able to fit 33x12.5 tires. Doesnt say you will be able to fit 35" without trimming etc. Problem is I cant find a 33' tire that will fit a stock 16 rim. What is the best combination of rim/tire or tire should I go with? I see some tires that are 16.5 Will that fit a 16" rim. Im not very knowledgeable when it comes to rims tires and if i need wheel spacers or not.AM i going to have to get a 15 inch rim to have a wider selection or tires. Im not too fond of the bigger rim low profile tires. Just bigger size tires.

305/70R16 are a 32.8" tall tire and basically the 16" version of a 33" tire. You should be able to fit that size with a leveling kit. The problem you're likely to run into using the factory wheels is rubbing on the control arms. You need wheels with a bit more backspacing to get the wider tires away from the control arm. Spacers accomplish the same thing, but they are a pretty horrible idea.

I fit 37s with my leveling kit. Only running was the control arms (as stated above) and a little bit in the plastic inner fender.

255/85R16 and 285/75R16 might be other options to consider. Close to 33" tall, but narrower than a 33x12.50. How wide are the factory 16" wheels? Seven inches? If so, fitting the 285/75R16 (or wider) tire would likely be an issue.

You can't find tires for stock wheels? Have you looked at a tire store? Every manufacturer makes a 33" tire for a 16" wheel.

I don't think the OP realized that some metric sizes are 33s.

The 285s will fit fine on the stockers, I stuffed 305s on mine for awhile before I got different rims

The specs I looked at (Cooper) said the approved rim width for several (didn't look at all) of their 285/75R16 models was 7.5"-9". I suspect at least some shops would not install such tires on a 7" rim for warranty and/or liability reasons. Your mileage may vary.

No one pays attention to that. I've seen 315s on 7" wheels. I'm on my third set of 285s from third manufacturer and all shops have mounted them no problem.
