98 ram 1500 drum brakes
I got a 1998 ram 1500 with the 5.9L v8 but the rear drum brakes dont work and the parking brake doesnt even engage. I know nothing about drum brakes so I dont even know where to start
Watch a couple videos on YouTube for your drum brakes. They can be fun..... but, definitely doable, if you have some basic hand tools, and a BIG hammer. (to get the drums off.)
Also, check the brake line going to the rear.... they like to rust out and break....... generally, right by the gas tank, so you can't see it.
Moving this to second gen ram section for ya.

Might be better off taking it to a shop. Brakes are quick and easy if you know what you're doing. If not, I'd hate to be on the same road as you. Better to have it done right than guess. Drums are no picnic but if you can do discs, then you should be fine. Get the brake tool!
Always remember, if you are new to drum brakes, work on one side at a time, use the other side as a reference. Rear brakes aren't hard, but, I've been doing them for almost 40 years. I lost count of how many call outs I've had because someone who "knew how to do brakes" tore both sides down and got completely lost. Call outs=$$$$$ for me.
Instead of the stock 15/16 inch wheel cylinders, order 1 1/16 inch wheel cylinders from a 2500 or 3500. The make a big difference in brake performance. I order Wagner brakes from Rock auto. I like the Thermoquiets. You'll need a "drum brake hardware kit", two "drum brake self adjuster repair kits", two wheel cylinders (wagner WC79767 are the 1 1/16") , a set of brake shoes, and probably two brake drums.
