Default heater and temprature

My heater does not turn on and my temperature doesn't want to read. What could be the problem?

Is that the heater or the fan that does not turn on? If a temp gauge isn't reading, I would start with the sensor.

The fan turns on, but no heat comes out no matter how long I keep it on. And for the temp the gauge doesn't read at all.

Does the gauge test when you start the truck?

Nope. I start the truck and there is no movement on the temp gauge. For instance, I took a 4-hour long trip and the temp did not move not even a centimeter.

If you hold the trip reset button in, and turn the key to On, that will perform a cluster test. All the lights should come on, and all the gauges should go thru a full sweep. If the temp gauge doesnt, the cluster is bad. If it does it may still have a problem in the circuitry that drives it. On your truck (assuming the 01 ram in your profile there....) there is only one temp sensor, and the pcm suggests to the cluster, via the CTM, what it should read. If the other gauges work, the CTM is likely fine.... If the engine is simply not warming up, that *should* set a code. (engine too cold too long.)
