That's interesting. I checked my 97 1500 frame and my 98 2500 frame this last weekend because of reading that same thing, and they were both 1/4". If anything the 1500 was slightly thicker in a couple places. Both are Nevada trucks since new (no rust).
97 1500, 360, auto, 4x4, Dana 44 front, corporate 9 rear.
98 2500, 360, nv4500, 4x4, Dana 60 front, 70 rear.
They are rare, but as I discovered with my 2001 Ram 1500, there are some out there that do not fit what we would consider standard. Mine had the 5.9 gaser, was 2wd, auto, but somehow ended up with a fully boxed frame. The bed section was 1/4" thick, front two sections were 3/16ths. My frame lacked the mounting location for the cross member that would hold the carrier bearing as well. Two years prior to being wrecked by someone in converted that truck to have a NV3500.
My friend has a 92 Ramcharger that literally got pieced together, at the factory, with random stuff from across different models and year ranges. To this day we still find things that make us scratch our heads.
My point is, sometimes the factory throws crap together either based on excess supplies or custom requests, the one-offs are out there. Lol
