long crank time
Going through my truck today, next thing on my list is solving the long crank time. Any ideas on what causes this? fuel pump works just fine, idle is jumpy, driving the rpm fluctuates a little. not sure where to start, taking all ideas! just did a tune up but it didnt fix my issue
A jumpy idle can indicate a throttle body needs a cleanout. The iac can need cleaning or replacement. The deposits that accumulate on the inside of the t.b. bores can block air that the engine needs for idleing.
I can say I personally never had a starter completely die on any of my vehicles *knock on wood* but my dad swore up and down an old car I hads long crank time was due to a dying starter. If you could somehow get it tested, if the fuel pump is already ok and you already did a tuneup, I'd say starter. No check engine light or codes on? Battery check out ok? Could be a bad battery. I'd say dirty throttle body too and bad iac or iac that needs cleaning, I've been meaning to do mine. When cold, it'll idle fine on my truck but when I go to leave the driveway with the truck in drive, the idle gets a little jumpy but it's never died or anything, but after a few mins and it warming up mine becomes fine.
