Default Gear swapping need help

Hey guys and gals I'm just wondering I bought a new axle for my truck Dana 44 and Chrysler 9.25 with 8 lug everything 😂. So naturally I bought a Dana 60 well it turns out that through the bon tag that I heard about on here it has 4.10s now my question is if I were to to either gear down would I have to swap out carriers due to going from 4.10 to 3.54 or should I try and find a cheap set of 4.10 for under $300 for the 9.25 this is my everyday driver thanks in advance

I would not necessarily trust the tag, pull the cover and look for ratio numbers on ring gear, someone may have changed it. Dana 60 case(carrier) break is 4.10 and lower, so no you do not need to change carriers. Also on Dana 60's, check differential case bearings, especially the left hand side (short side), they have a tendency to go bad from heavy load around 125K miles. Setting up new gears is fairly complicated and can be rather expensive.

From your other post, I see you are talking about the front axle. I don't think they have as much of a wear problem as the rear axle. Looks like your diff cover has been off before, definitely need to due a complete inspection before going further. Make sure those spring perches and control arm mounts have not been weakened by rust.

I just got ahold of the guy I bought it from he has a 94.5-96 Dana 60 with the 3.54 already in it I know I need to pull the cover to be sure but I'm going to swap them out for each other so if neither have been changed I'm not having to pay an arm and a leg for new years lol keep it simple stupid as I call it lol.

I'd rather have the 4.10s. Stock tire size? What speed do you drive? Do you tow a trailer or go off road at all?

I go off-road quite often no rock crawling or anything like that I run 265-285 I want to go to 35s but that will be when I redo gears i also drive on the highway quite often only occasionally tow im short with money at the moment and this swap was cheaper as long as I didn't need gears which.

If you running 285 or larger tire, 4.10s is the way to go. Swapping gears out later just makes things expensive.

You'll definitely want 410s. I'd actually go with 456s with 35 inch tires. It will take a lot of money to make enough horsepower to do what the lower gears will.
