i have a 01 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 which recently had a remanufactured engine put in. The engine that it previously had was burning a quart of oil every 250 miles, so not much compression. The issue I am having is the reman feels as if it has the same power as the old engine. Could the PCM still be running like the old engine or is it just the fact that’s its a 5.2?
What gears, and what size tires? I would assume they had the battery disconnected while swapping motors, so, PCM should have been reset by that. (so it can learn the new motor.) Did you fix the plenum while the intake was off? Replace any sensors?
If it still feels lethargic, getting a tuner for it probably wouldn't hurt. Even if the engine is bone stock. Getting rid of the deathflash, and torque management, will likely make a noticeable difference.
