Default Starting problems & blinking high beams

1998 ram 150,5.9 heavy duty : after truck has been driven a while and its warmed up good i have to wait for it to cool down before it will start again. This has been going on for at least a year now and especially it seems when its hot outside. It starts fine on short distance trips. The other problem is with the head light high beams blink off and on, almost like a blinker. I changed the bulbs, single bulb with both low and high beams. Now, the low beams don't work and the high beams still blink.before i changed the bulbs, the low beams worked .....? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The dieing when it's hotter out. I'd lean towards your coil getting hot and loosing spark. Cools off and its able to start again.

Does your headlight flash like a blinker even when your parked with the headlights on? If it's only while driving I'd say a loose or corroded ground. If not then I'd check wiring and the bulb connectors themselves.

Thanx Michael: The lights will start blinking even while parked but what gets me is it blinks in perfect rhythm like the blinkers do. Yesterday when i started it i checked the lights and both high and low beams were working. Went qn a short errand and i checked 'em again when i got back and they were still working properly.??????? I'm guessing that they just gave me a break yesterday but i'm still not ready to be on the road at nite with it.
As far as the coil goes your not the first person to suggest that it sounds like a coil problem. ............... Thanx again ps: I'm waiting for a nice day before i start tinkering with the light s again. As far as the coil goes i guess the only way to know for sure is to replace that as soon as i can and see if it corrects the problem

No problem. You can also test them, I never have personally but you can try to check it and see if the windings are fine. do your headlights blink at all when the blinkers arnt used? Trying to help distinguish between a bad/loose ground. Or wiring is not rite, considering you say there almost in sync. Someone may have done that to make it like new car blinkers, I would check wiring.

The light issue sounds like a ground problem.

The uniform blinking almost sounds like it's getting a ground thru a capacitor discharge because it's normal ground was lost or flaky. Check those body grounds especially. It's either that or your ECM has become sentient as are most Dodge computers and has begun communicating with other Dodges in preparation for the zombie apocalypse?!?

I removed the driver side headlamp and the passengers side headlamp works fine no blinking and both high and low beams work fine. Thats a starting point at least. And as far as the starting problem goes i think for the price of a new coil,i'll just replace that and see if the fixes the problem.? thanks It may be a Zombie Apocolypse.

I also searched on youtube and a similar problem was caused by the TIPIT or something like that. It costs 800 to 1000 dollars to replace that. This guy ran the "Driver from the opposite headlamp to the other side. Driver is the term he used. Insted of that thought he traced his problem to the TIPIT'- "Totally Integrated something " and spliced it there to fix his problem. He also changed the way the plug was wired ??? I have some moisture inside that driver side lamp so i will take it out and dry things up and agin replace the bulb and try and make sure it works before i close it back up.........and check the grounds as well.....C ya later

That would be "totally integrated power module", or TIPM. Our trucks don't have one. Thank god.
