Default New Tires

I im in a debate of what kind of tires I need to buy. Im leaning toward the BFG A/T but I have heard bad things about theses, but I have also heard they are awesome tires. Price really isnt a object I just want somthing that looks beefy and aggressive, but at the same time a good tire.

"Beefy & Aggressive" and "Good Tire" don't usually go well together. The BFG ATs, while not on the extremely agressive side, are really good tires. They'll get you through almost anything offroad, and still ride/wear well on pavement...provided you rotate them once and a while. Yokohama Geolanders are about the same, if you want another option.

Personally, I think nothing beats the looks off military Humvee tires. There's a guy a few miles north of here that sells them with 70-80% tread left. He buys them at government auctions. I'm going to pick a set up in the spring for my winter truck. [8D]

I know I'm going to catch alot of flak for this cause most people like them, but when I had the BFG A/T's on my truck I was fixing a puncture just about everytime I hit the desert for some wheeling. After roughly 3000 miles on them and a pack of tire repair plugs later I got rid of them and put on some Pro Comp Xterrains which I wore out with never a flat and then I put Toyo's on the truck but mudders wear out alot faster. I run mudders as I am in the gumbo quite a bit and they don't throw rocks as much as the A/T's I have had on it before.I would recommend something other than the BFG's unless you don't get offroad much. The BFG's also had a tendancy to "fold under" on side hills while wheeling but I believe they have added another ply to the sidewalls on the newer ones. Also, most A/T's are rock throwing SOB's offroad, especially gravel roads so get some flaps if you don't already have them.... Just my experience with them

our company trucks used to have BFG A/T's, but switched due to the rocks chipping the paint as you pull back on to paved roads and accelerate. I had them a couple years ago, and didnt like em very much. Bought the M/T's later, and loved 'em. A few years after that (now), and I dont like the look of the M/T's anymore. Seems to me that everyone has BFG's, I like the FC-II's, I have heard they are a great on and offroad all terrain tire...the sidewalls look aggressive to me, but with decent all terrain tread...just my opinion.....

I have the BFG AT's and like them so far. They have a good aggressive look and from what I've been told and talked to people who have them it is possible to get 60,000+ miles out of them. I don't off road in the mud so I couldn't tell you about that. I know in dirt they seem to hook up well but with the tread pattern I would imagine they would ball up in super sticky mud. I do drive some gravel roads and they are rock throwers no doubt about that. They have a 3 ply sidewall which most other tires don't and a rim protector around the bead to help protect the edge of the wheels. If you are mainly highway and want looks I'd say go with the BFG AT's. Depends on your plans.

I've got the Cooper Discovery A/T on mine and I hate them! They have just under 10,000 miles on them and are over 1/2 gone. This is with 3 rotates. The tires are poor in snow and terrible on ice. I hear good things about the Mickey Thompson tire and the BFG's. I think my next set will be one of the these.
