Default Help...w/transmission noise and ce

I have a 98 5.9l mopar

I just noticed a noise when I put my truck into reverse. It makes almost the same sound as when you let your foot off the brake some and the vehicle wants to move, a rubbing whining sound. It does not do it in the forward gears. I think it starts to go away once it warms. I never heard it before, probably as I always have my stereo on. I was troubleshooting a check engine light that has come on. I have had all the tranny services, to include a complete flush 200 miles ago. So since I bought it new it's had 3 tranny services, 2 regular non flushes and 1 flush. I called the dealership yesterday to make sure the tech put the right atf type 3 in my tranny and they said he did.

My check engine light comes on when I engage the a/c. I had this problem several years ago as a result of poor repair work after an unfortunate accident, which my Ram won the Mazda is history. Once I disconnect the neg and reconnect, the check engine light goes away. The tech said it was a loose connection/wire at the pcm causing it to turn the check engine light when the a/c was engaged. They already replaced the tps, and pcm while troubleshooting it.

I was out driving around a week ago and turned on the a/c and then felt a sudden loss of power and the check engine light came on. When I checked under the hood, I found the air hat loose and didn't see anything wrong. After I tightend down the air hat and fired up the engine and punched it it died, however, after resetting the computer it didn't do that yesterday. Could the loose air cleaner have caused the engine to wig? It wanted to die when I accelerated normally the day it happened, so I had to nurse the truck home by not nailing the pedal.

I bought a new o2 sensor thinking it might have been that, but when I went to put it on the frickin "special" tool to remove it was too long and I couldn't find the connection on the other end, it's way up over the tranny. So I didn't get it changed.

When I tried turning the ignition on off on off on to get the code like someone on this board told me, I didn't get any codes w/the check engine.

So my question is, has anyone else experienced a noise in reverse? or a check engine when the a/c comes on?

thanks for any advice

forgot to mention,

I only use the o/d on the highway not around town. It's always off.

Second, the truck only has 56k on it since it was bought new in 97

I have the same noise- a reverse buzz- I believe If ya look thru the posts it is some sensor located on the tranny. I have had that sound since I bought the truck, I would be lost without the sound If I fix it............No CE lights tho

The sound your refering to is most likely the dodge reverse buzz that they have been fighting since the old 727 trans. The pressure regulator in the valve body is the culpret. Dodge has a tsb on this and in some cases it helps and in others it seems to make the noise worse. Sonnax and trans go have addressed this problem with a degree of succsess. I have the trans go shift kit in mine and wouldn't build another trans without it. I also installed the Sonnax pressure regulator and mannual valve. These allow converter charge with the trans in park and helps stop the converter drainback issue.
