Hey Everyone,
Im thinking of buying a 2001 Dodge 2500 and was hoping some of you could help me out. I want to know around what it would cost to upgrade the majority of the parts so I can make sure it gets to 1,000,000 KMs
Ive wanted this truck for a while now and im in a position now to afford it and all the upgrades I want.
This is day one of hopefully a very long life for this truck and I want to do it right. What im asking is What upgrades should I be doing? Suspension? Transmission? Engine?
Does anyone have experiences with stripping down the entire truck grinding/sanding and putting rustproof/oilcoat? How much ballpark would it cost?
I have a lot to learn about this truck so just looking for ideas of where to start, Im buying the truck for 9000$ with 300,000kms on it, and Im willing to spend 10,000$ a year for 3 years to get it 'almost' completely redone, or at least serviced
Thanks for the help
Trannsmission is what you need to upgrade. You could get one bulletproofed for anywhere from $3,500 to $7,000 depending on where you live. I reprinted the frame, axles, and everything and if that is what you are talking about you are in the ball park of $10,000. I'll sell you a 600HP 24V that needs a VP44 lift pump for $1500. I took my diesel out and am putting a Hemi in.
Lift pump, new injection pump, etc for the engine. Adjust valves and run 2 stroke oil. If you really want it to run forever, get it p pumped. Looks lifted or leveled already and ditch the wheel tire combo. The front end needs new track bar, redhead gear and t steering plus ball joints. That seems really cheap for that truck so I would wonder what's wrong. Be sure it's not 53 block. You'll get a ton more info on diesel sites. Hopefully it's not an automatic. Look for 5 or 6 speed.

Hey Thanks for your reply. 9000$ is pretty average for Used 2001 truck in Alberta, they can go for as much as 18000$ but that is with aftermarket parts and pristine* condition. It is a standard 6 speed, its NOT the 53 block. I think the guy is in need of cash and wants a quick sale.
So this year I should:
-Replace Lift Pump
-New Injection Pump
-Adjust Valves (im assuming you mean timing? I dont know much about trucks.. yet)
-P PUmped (it says online that it has to be manually adjusted, should I learn more about this before going ahead?)
-Completely upgrade Suspension front and rear(It has 2.5Inch Leveling Kit)
Next Year:
-Bulletproof Transmission
-????
What do you mean by Wheel Tire Combo?
Thanks again, looking forward to learning as much as I can about this truck.

You have the NV4500 you won't need to touch the tranny those are built from the factory. There is something that goes wrong with them but for the life of me I can't think of it. He means get rid of the big rims (looks weird) which means new tires you can for 38s with your setup but may have some rubbing when turning the wheel to full lock on the lower control arm. The VP44 pump is known to fail. The P Pump is better the adjustment I have no clue you can Google it. He means take the slack out of the valves not timing.

Reason: Speaking like always
Here's a P Pumped 24 valve. I'd swap a CAT in it if I wanted a diesel, but this is about what you want. Replace the lift pump, run 2 stroke oil in your fuel, and do the frame and body first.
5th gear nut on the transmissions. There is a DIY kit out there in the world to put a permanent fix on it.
I would go with a GREAT quality aftermarket lift pump.... the stock units simply were not the best.
I would be tempted to leave the electronic pump on there, and get a good tuner for it...... so long as the lift pump is good, the injection pump is pretty reliable.
