Default Front Pump bad?

2001 Dodge Ram 2500 360 or 5.9L for you imperial fellows. I will start by saying I only ever rebuilt a tranny have no experience doing diagnostics or knowing what will fail. The problem is when I put the truck in reverse it makes a whine (like a power steering pump that is low) and will do it most of the time. Sometimes it won't and it didn't matter if it's on a level surface or on an incline or if it's cold or warm. I checked the fluid level (engine up to temp and in neutral) and it looked good (not burnt or anything). Dropped the pan and it looks really good there. According to my research it's either cancer or the front pump (WebMD said cancer got to love the internet ). So any opinions? Any way to diagnose the front pump?

Shifts a little late from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes have to take your foot off the gas but I believe it's the tps sensor because sometimes won't go into overdrive and stays at about 3K. Light doesn't come on for overdrive off.

Change the TPS sensor, see if the trans behaves any better. Worry about the noise if it gets louder/more obnoxious.

My motto is "I'll know what it is when it breaks." I just have to figure out the brake issue I ordered all new lines (hard and soft lines) and new booster and master cylinder.
