I recently installed a new fuel line at the fuel tank on my truck and the plastic line that connects comes off the steel fuel line and quick connects at the fuel tank developed a kink in the plastic line. The plastic line runs in between the frame and the fuel tank. I could probably get the kink out using a heat gun, but didn't want to drop the fuel tank again, as the tank is about 3/4 full of gas. Any thoughts of how I might get the kink out of the line?

 

Cut and splice the kink. When it bends like that, it seriously weakens the plastic, and is highly likely to develop a leak. You REALLY don't want that. They make couplers for just such an occasion.

 

what he said. you need plastic to plastic compression fittings. any parts store should have them. easy as cutting the line and sliding on the fitting and tightening. $30 for parts.

 

That's interesting. The fuel line assembly is brand new and the plastic line portion of it kinked a bit when I connected the quick connect end to the top of the fuel tank.

 

You can get a new line with the fitting on the end. Dorman makes them but i had no luck with the plastic line that comes with them if you have to bend them. I had it in boiling hot water and it still kinked. Replace it with regular fuel line. The line they use on them shrinks after you heat it up in water so you may have an issue with compression fittings.

 

I replaced mine with fuel injection hose rated for 6.9 bar (100 psi) and to this point in time, all is well.

 

does your model year uses steel fuel lines? how do you join plastic to rubber hose

 

Yes, steel lines until about 8 inches before the tank, then it was nylon line up to the fuel pump connector.
Replaced the nylon (plastic) portion with fuel injection hose rated at 6.9 bar (100psi) working pressure, that I got from AutoZone,
the only auto parts store in my town that had it.

When/If you buy the fuel injection hose ask if they have fuel injection hose clamps, they are specially
designed to not cut into the hose over time.
