Default 1999 ram 1500 5.9l 4x4 light on

The previous owner replaced the transfer case and the 4x4 light stays on all the time regardless of the shifter position. Any ideas.

Check and see if vacuum changes at the CAD on the front axle when you shift from 2wd, to 4wd. May be a bad switch, (either at the t-case, or on the cad) bad cad.... Need to look and see.

The shaft from the pot pushes in on the switch to turn it on, so, I would think you would see the opposite problem if that were it...... Might be as simple as a bad switch. Easy enough to take it out, and test it.

Like HeyYou said, check the switch. But I do not think you should be able to wiggle it around, how much wiggle and which direction? I'd pull it apart and see what is going on. I put a new vacuum motor in mine for about 70, but I ended up having to drill out my housing to accomodate the far end of the shaft.. dang poor quality aftermarket with a slightly thicker than factory spec rod. But it works great now, and I made sure I hit it liberally with cavity wax to keep the corrosion to a minimum.
