Don't know the laws where you are but my 96 2500 is inspection EXEMPT! Another bonus of keeping an older truck going.

Keep it and buy another vehicle. Best of both worlds.I got a 2010 car last year just to drive something a bit more new and for better gas mileage. The Ram had been my daily for six years. My intention was to only drive the 01 Ram about ten percent of the time (semi-retire it if you will) but it turns out i drive it about 50% of the time. It's so reliable and utilitarian. In the end it's less wear on both vehicles and if one goes down i still have the other while it gets fixed.

We have personal property taxes in this state - older vehicles pay very low taxes. That's a great benefit for keeping older vehicles around! Also, anything 25 years old or older qualifies as an antique vehicle.

I would have to admit I have 2 vehicles. 1995 geo tracker and my new to me 2001 Dakota. I need 2 for the reason so I always have one to drive when the other needs repair. I would keep fixing because you know what you have. Keep it until rust takes over. Thats what happened to my poor 1994 S10. Its probably not worth much anyway. Just get a 2nd older vehicle so you can always have one that works.

And keep in mind, you can do an awful lot of work to a 2nd gen for the cost a new/newer truck.

Smile Fix It if YOU can!

You don't want to EVER buy one of my vehicles . . . .I guarantee you if I sell/trade . . . its JUNK !
I have never got rid of any thing I drive if it has less than 300K or total rust!
I'm a wrench nut. I love what I drive and I maintain them with lots of love, every day.
Look at the prices today, think of the money you save keeping the old one. You can't fix these new throwaways today!

I think I can turn some heads with my 18 yr old Dakota that looks pretty darn good when I clean it up.All for a measly 6,000. And I over payed at that, but you cant find many rust free up here in ND.

I thought you guys used sand up there. When I went through Sweet Grass, Montana just before summer, they had sand at least 6" deep from road sanding. I don't know what's worse winter salting , or spring/summer sand blasting ! I know Buffalo, uses sand ! Worst thing they ever did was stop production on Dakota. I bought my son a Cherry '05 and the little **** doesn't take care it. So filthy inside, I wouldn't let my dog inside to take a crap! I have removed him from my will!
