Default Truck whines but won’t start or turn over

I have the starter hooked up and the truck in park so I check to make sure the engine will crank up. New oil filter and oil level is good so I connect my battery and try to see if the engine cranks and no go.

it makes a squealing sound like it tries to start and that’s it.

hmmm starter solenoid stuck ? Could it be the alternator ?

When I plug my battery up it’s a new battery but I had the cab light and radio go off when I plugged it in for the first time weeks ago.

It it was like 20 minutes but the battery still has enough power to power everything else.

dunno.

yes. They are all fine.

heres a picture of the starter. I’m not the one who put it in so I don’t know how it’s supposed to sit.

Um, that's not right. Why was the starter out in the first place?

because the transmission was out. I’m not the one who put it in. I’m just working with what I got and the dude isn’t as smart as he made himself sound.

Pull the starter, have a look inside, see why it won't seat all the way. (disconnect the battery first.....)
