Default Tire selection

Just got my first Dodge Ram a few months ago. '97 extended cab 2wd 1500. I'm not a pickup truck kinda guy but I might actually bond with this thing. The door jam shows 225/75/16 as the factory tires. It has 245/75s on it and they're gonna need to be replaced in about six months. From a pure road handling standpoint, what is the best size tire to encourage good cornering and control using the factory steel wheels? I'm thinking that the factory knows best but I thought that I'd just throw this out there to you folks. Compared to my last vehicle, the truck drives like a quiet limo. It has more understeer than I like. I'm replacing the shocks in about a month. I might consider lowering it by 2F/3R but that'll be in another post.

Get a build sheet for your truck from here. That will tell you what size tires actually came from the factory on your truck. (I don't always trust the door sticker......)

If you don't do much "truck stuff" with your truck, you could put a passenger car tire on it...... I wouldn't go any smaller than the 245's though. Might even consider bumping to 265's.......
