Default Engine change saga

OK gang, 99 4x41500 5.9. Well here about a month ago the ole engine let go after putting new heads on it and a few other things. I know sucks to be me. LOL Well found one out of 2001 at the junk yard in Cocoa. To say the least I was a nervous wreck. LOL So did the swap this weekend and guess what? What you all ask. IT RUNS. LOL Got a few little things to do to it before she hits the road again. Had it on a stand for a week before we dropped it in this weekend, so I took new timing chain off blown up on and intake that was reworked. Didn't change the heads as not enough time, but keeping the old one and will tear down over time and maybe make a stroker out of it?????
So now that I have put you all to sleep I got a question or 2 for the smart people. I went to start her up and my odometer now shows 235000. Only had 177000 when she blowed up. What up with that?
Well ok 1 question. LOL
I was thinking about junking her but when I started looking around here in Floridah things where close to 10 grand for a comp year and milage so decided that since I like her would do engine change.
Well so that is my weekend story.
I have learned to just keep fixing what is broke unless ya have lots of funds, and since I didn't will powerball of mega millons on goes the fix em and run em

Your odometer shouldn't do that...... I think the cluster is responsible for remembering mileage..... Why it would reset like that is really bizarre....

Did you change the PCM during the swap? I'm wondering if the PCM stores the mileage and the cluster only displays with the PCM has stored? Also wondering if certain year (pre-'96) trucks store the mileage in the cluster? If you changed the PCM during the swap and kept the old PCM, try installing the old PCM to see if the mileage goes back to 177,000. I'd love to hear what you find.

To my knowledge the mileage is stored in the clustercas when I changed clusters and worked at the Dodge garage I went into the cluster and changed the mileage to the original miles. I might have went into the PCM though I'm not sure. I know the newer trucks it's in the PCM. I'll check when I get a chance

I think the 97 and older trucks had a mechanical odometer...... and the PCM really didn't care.

That's my experience. I changed the PCM in my '96 Ram and the mileage did not change. I'm thinking that the later year trucks (after OBD2) might store the reading in the PCM and use the cluster as just a display, if the odometer reading is a digital display.

I think the electronic display first came out in the 98 model year.

Hey guys thanks for the input. I got put straight by mrs. fun4vern today. I am going to blame it on old age and being tired. LOL I was telling her about it and she reminded me I have had this truck around 3 years and then proceeded to show me bill of sale, ahhhhm 162,000 and change. Then she proceeds to remind me of how many sets of tires I have put on it. So with my feable old mind I got mileage from when I put the first set of new tennis shoes on her.
So sorry guys for making you think to hard. HEE HEE
I love this place cause most everyone is laid back and tell fixes from experience, to me thats what counts. Being an old removed flight engineer off C-5 I like the experience knowledge, NOT book.
Again thanks to ya all for all the info ya put out.
