Default Discolored turbo part, from high heat?

There is a Dodge 2002 (first half of the year-would it be a 2nd gen?) that has a discolored part from the engine intake to the reach over to go to the turbo. I'd like some input on why this looked like it got too hot. And please tell me what this part is called.

Pardon my lack of knowledge, but I am not experienced enough with 'forums' and I also don't know what this part is called.

That would be intake elbow. Funky looking, you sure it's not painted? Stock engine?
How does the intake manifold looks like?

It doesn't look painted to me. And why would someone do that? But alas, I do not know more. It is a truck for sale and I am concerned about that. Thank you for the assitance. Looking forward to more input as well.

Make sure the intercooler and that hose isn't loaded with oil.

If you plan to drop a bundle on a truck, get an inspection done first. Diesel stuff is expensive as hell

Definitely abnormal. That should be silver/gray all the way to the plenum. Looks to be painted for some reason. If it got hot, I would think it'd be blue? No reason that side should be that hot unless the engine itself got raging hot, in which case it probably would of failed.

I sure appreciate the input here. I have seen it, touched it..it is NOT painted. Dealer/seller says it is ok!

While I think too that it is not normal; I'd love to know what caused it. The potential buyer has passed on the truck for now, but still somewhat considering it.

What kind of metal is this intake elbow made of? And would this kind of metal take on those colors when hot?

I believe they are aluminum. I do not know enough about metal properties to know which color they could turn.

I am thinkin' if that were heat discoloration, the rubber elbow coming up from the intercooler would have melted a long time ago. It almost looks like oil film that is getting baked on. How are the gaskets there?
