Weird Headlight Switch Problem
I was recently tasked with installing new halo/led headlight assemblies in a 94 Ram 2500 diesel. The customer stated that he wanted the halos and the 3 leds to come only with the parking lights, so I wired the 4 wires into the parking light wiring, ground to ground and positive to the wire that receives power with the headlight switch.
Well, I had them all wired in and installed and I don't know what happened ( I foolishly failed to check the lights proper function before installing anything, so I couldn't say whether they worked or not beforehand) but now in order to get the parking lights to stay on, the switch must be positioned in a "sweet spot" between all the way in (off) and the first click (parking lights) in order for the parking lights to function. When pulled to the first click there's no lights on at all.
When pulled out all the way (headlights on) the headlights work properly, both low beams and high beams, but there's no taillights or plate lights now, whereas the rear lights worked when the switch was in the "sweet spot". Also, the only time the cluster lights would come on was with the parking lights, with the headlights on they also failed to function.
I assumed because all the lights worked at certain points that the switch was bad, but after installing another switch it nothing had changed. We even tried a THIRD switch and they all three functioned the same way.
This makes absolutely no sense to me at all, I was wondering if anybody else has experienced something like this before or what it is that I'm missing, because I'm at a loss as to what to do.
