While putting in new rear door speakers, the plastic retainer
ends of the door latch cable broke. The truck is a 1999...they were old and brittle.... I imagine a lot of plastic is that way on this truck.. This is how I replaced them if anyone is interested. Thanks for looking. The pics are not in order. I found the cables made by Dorman on Amazon for $21 each.. other places wanted from $34 to $44 each. I also re-used the yellow retainer clips... a little beat up, but still worked just fine... just had to line them up carefully and make sure they actually went into the hole. This was the hardest part of the whole job.
did not have to remove weatherstrip, just slipped my finger behind it and slid it up to re-seal it. used this plastic tool to remove door panel and clips... screwdrivers and pliers gouge paint and dent metal... matters to me alright???!!! this is behind the door panel handle... I sprayed some silicone on it to help the retainer snap in and to lube the mechanism. I sliced the plastic around this access hole and folded it into the door cavity and taped it up when done. The cable goes behind the bar.. The bars and the nut were in good shape and tight. I also sprayed some silicone on this mechanism. another shot of how the cable goes behind the bar. this is the broken and the new cables. this is the ride
Great write up! All of the plastic bits in our trucks are getting brittle from age. I've seen you tube videos of guys upgrading the speakers and breaking some of the mounting tabs off of the inner door panels. That tool you used is the best option.
Nice clean looking truck by the way. They must not salt the roads up your way.
Thanks bro...they do salt..in Minnesota...definitely...I've been keeping it housed in the garage and take it out to go ice fishing and when it snows over 12 inches or to haul stuff... otherwise I keep it inside... your red truck ain't no joke... the rim/tire combo is really nice...
