2092 Dodge Ram makes a pinging sound . It's not a tapping sound . It sounds like someone is tapping on a steel pipe with a metal spoon. Any suggestions? 133k miles, never a problem before

I don't know they are that far ahead. Do they still have wheels in 2092???? on a serious note could be spark pinging. Does it sound like marbles in a can?? (RamMan knows more about it then I do he might chime in)

Default Ping sound

It could sound like a marble in a can but not a bunch of marbles, if that makes any sense. It is a 2002, my bad. QUOTE=Bigmacdaddy1237;3417916]2092 Dodge Ram makes a pinging sound . ...flux capacitor at some point in the next 74 years 😄

Just kidding around. I agree - it sounds like spark pinging. I had a similar issue and seemed to have good success with switching to slightly cooler-burning spark plugs. I'm fairly certain there are multiple threads about that on here, but I don't have a link handy. I'll see if I can dig one up.

Edit: try this thread - https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-ram-tech/413056-5-9-magnum-rattle-sound-can-t-figure-this-out-is-this-pinging.html

Colder plugs or higher octane gas should stop or reduce it.

Time for a seafoam treatment and tune up, regardless of engine.

Its not spark plug ping if it occurs immediately when you start up a cold engine. Ping is more pronounced to engine load and is never audible during deceleration.

it does start immediately when the truck starts and is present even when I take my foot off the accelerator. Where does that leave me?
