Default Transfer case swap

Alright, so I scored a hell of a deal on a transfer case a couple days ago, but I've never swapped them out before, so I'm looking for a little advice. I've tried looking on YouTube, but there's no really detailed videos out there, just short clips that don't really help. Does anyone have a detailed, step by step instructions?

Its as simple as remove the driveshafts and then there is 6 nuts to pull the transfer case off. Add rtv to the new transfer case and then reverse the procedure

What about dropping the cross member? Doesn't that get in the way?

I changed out a transfer case on a 95 1500 and I removed the cross member, it wasn't that hard, just put a jack under the transmission to hold it up.

Been there, done it twice. No need to drop the crossmember. And there is much more room under the truck vs transmission held up with jack. Only nut that I found hard to remove, was the one at the top. Bodylifted truck makes it little easier.

Make life easy by making a holding fixture for your floor jack. Trace the outline of the lower half of the xfer case & transfer it to some scrap plywood & 2x4's. Bolt that to the shoe of your floor jack & you can lower & raise the xfer case without it flopping around. You have to guess a little on where the center point should be. This is a trick I learned back in my full size jeep days. I had to pull the xfer case on my '95 when the tranny went bad.

Buy a Transfer Case Saver and install it.
