2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD Indicator Light
Hey Guys
So I had my front differential rebuilt with a new intermediate shaft and axle shafts. Replaced the 4x4 shift collar, new bearing and races
Driving around today it was getting a little icy so I figured lets check the 4x4 out
Well for the first time in this trucks life since I owned the 4x4 Indicator light will not come on. Won't light up on the cluster
I went to a empty parking lot, you can definitely feel the 4x4 is engaged when you turn the wheels all the way to either side and slowly let it drive
4 High works good
I crawled under the truck and looked around at the work the mechanic did. Vacuum lines to the actuator look good, I pulled them off and you can definitely hear the vacuum. I pulled off the electrical connector and cleaned it with CFC Cleaner. Went for another check and still nothing. I can't get the light to come on.
I did a light cluster check with holding the odometer button and turning the key to activate it. All lights and guages work but the 4x4 Indicator. Now i'm not sure if that light check on the cluster works for that specific light or not. Maybe only works when the 4x4 is engaged?
I pulled out the cluster and inspected everything closely, all the bulbs are in good shape on it
So I'm trying to figure out just what this guy did to my truck that won't get the light to come on. Short of changing the switch on the Actuator i'm a bit lost here. Did he damage the switch on the actuator, maybe the 4x4 shift collar is put on backwards? Pretty sure I wouldn't have 4x4 if that was the case.
Any ideas on where this problem can be? I did have all vacuum lines checked when he rebuilt the front differential on the truck. Wiring looks to be in good shape. Done most checks I can think of so far
Doesn't make sense that it has worked the whole life of the truck. I get the front differential serviced and rebuilt with a SKF Master Kit and now the light won't come on.
Any opinions and help appreciated, thanks

Could well be, mine was broken too when I got the truck. You can do one quick test: remove the switch and press the plunger manually. Check with an ohm meter (or the dash light if you have a helper) if the switch closes. The switch is $12 at Autozone (don't get the cheap Dorman one).
Well after doing some testing and just playing with my 4x4 Shifter
My light has magically started working and doing it's thing again, Not sure what to say, Shift collar needed to be broke in since everything was replaced?
Since the 4x4 Light has started coming on again the 4x4 is definitely noticeable vs when the light wasn't on but you could still feel it when turning the wheels
Fixed itself again, I'll keep an eye on it and watch what it does
Thanks for your help guys
