Default Frame dimensions the same between 2nd gen and early 3rd gen trucks?

I'm thinking of purchasing a used front hitch for my '96 Ram 2500 truck that came off a 2003 Ram 2500 truck. Any thoughts as to whether or not the hitch will fit my '96 Ram 2500 truck? Not too much worried about having to drill a hole or two in the frame, but was curious if that front hitch from a 3rd gen truck would fit my 2nd gen truck? Thoughts?

Should work as the frame width should be the same. They all used the same front axle for the first year or two.
