Default too cold

2001 Ram 2500 pickup with 5.9l diesel--Very cold upstate NY and I forgot to add anti gel to my fuel. What's the best way to get it running? I have it plugged in and it started right up but quit after about 4 minutes.

thanks, gregjo1948

Sell it and buy a gasser like a lot of others did.... Honestly diesels aren't made for the cold. May have to keep it plugged in and let it warm up then start it. Mine did that one year and wouldn't stay running and the dealer said it was normal for how cold it was.

My Diesel has always started fine in the cold weather. It is not normal for it to not start unless it is something crazy like 20 below or less. I can let my 7.3 sit for a week in cold weather and it will fire up just fine after I cycle the glow plugs. I have never added anti gel either, winter blend fuel already has the additives in it to prevent gelling.

Why then did my Cummins die after running for 4 minutes? It was about -10F and it started right up then acted like it was running out of fuel then died.

Got a garage you can park it in, and warm it up? Aside from that, wait till Saturday, when its supposed to be warmer.

When I owned many of my Cummins they wouldn't start at -12 and the dealer along with a Cummins garage said that was normal

Get it towed.

Or, get thick blankets over the truck, and place heater to blow hot air under the truck.

If it's bad enough you might wanna remove the fuel filter and clean it with some fresh diesel fuel. Could also use a hair dryer on your lines.
