Default Black metallic looking stuff in fuel pump filter & sump

My son called me today and said his truck stopped running about an hour or so after he fueled up. He got the truck towed home & torn down & asked me what would cause this black metallic looking substance in his fuel filter/fuel pump sump in his 2004 Dodge Ram truck. He said it was only in the in-tank pump/filter/sock sump and felt a bit gritty, but the tank looks clean. He fills up his truck every two weeks with gasoline so it shouldn't be old fuel The pump is 3-4yrs old and is a VDO pump. Below are the pictures he sent me.

I would suggest testing fuel pump pressure. If the test gauge needle bounces around, replace the pump.

I tested fuel pressure and it was jumping around from 55psi to 0psi this is y the pump is out and broken apart Bc I wanted to see what the problem was inside of the unit. My fuel tank is clean as can be. But I had this black metallic liquid coming out of the top of pump when I turned it upside down. There was non of this color in unit from the pick up sock to the internal Filter inlet. Took the pump apart to see if for some reason the magnets In The motor broke down but they were fine.

Then it's more then likely the lubrication for the pump itself. It probably leaked out somewhere and the metal flakes are from the pump itself also
