Default Let's Play "What's Wrong With My 46RE This Month"! Yay

I'm telling ya...this thing just refuses to act right for a even a month...jeez.

Luckily, this issue is somewhat minor, hoping the solution is something simple and easy.

When taking off from a stop at slow to moderate pace, the transmission sort of studder steps at about 5-7mph. It's as if it hits 5-7mph and decides it wants to shift to 2nd(god knows why), then decides it doesn't, then it does, then it doesn't. Feels like it does this little up down thing 2 times before deciding to stay in 1st. This translates into a little shudder. It also does this occasionally on the 2 -> 1 downshift at the same speeds.

If I hold the transmission in first, no shudder occurs.

If I take off quickly, no shudder occurs.

Governor pressure solenoid is a Borg Warner HD that's maybe 3 months old. Swapped it as part of a troubleshooting processes for the last issue I had with this thing.

Any thoughts on what to check?

Did you replace the pressure sensor as well?

Could be band adjustment.... Could be TV cable as well. I would be tempted to adjust the TV cable one click tighter, and see if that made a difference. (that will very slightly alter shift points. It may just move the problem a bit higher in the RPM range, or, it might completely solve it.)

I'll check the band adjustment. Would be the front band in this case right?

I set the tv cable slightly more aggressive hoping that would help but it didn't.

Also re-installed my superchips tuner for ****s and giggles...and while it didn't fix the problem, it does seem to help out a good bit with acceleration by keeping the truck in the lower gears, and that oddball shift pattern issue I was having with it installed last year hasn't come back yet, so hooray for that.

Not sure if that would be front or rear band. (quite likely the front, since you have to drop the pan to do that one........ typical.) Doing both certainly wouldn't hurt. Tighten adjusters to 72 INCH pounds, then back 'em both off 2 turns.

I'll re-do the rear band first. Come to think of it. I adjusted it during the troubleshooting last year as well, and just recently found my in-lb torque wrench to be out of calibration slightly, so maybe it's just the rear band.

Turns out the wire loom for the vehicle speed output sensor had come loose and drooped onto the front drive shaft which had slowly worn a hole in the wire and opened the circuit.

A quick line splice and it's back to normal. Hooray.
