You don't have an EGR valve. Did you ever clean the throttle body?

If I don't have an EGR what is the component on the driver side under the battery? A vacuum line and what looks like a throttle cable are connected and it has a diaphragm.. I've cleaned the throttle body half heartedly.

Does it bog down and die or just shut off like you turned the ignition off?
