Wow that is low miles. I noticed there are more people using conventional oil than synthetic in these V10s. Must just be personal choice rather than recommended?

I find a lotta lotta threads about lifter/valve train noise on the V-10s. What I haven't found though, is the fix for it....... Folks have changed lifters, and actually made the problem worse...... Not sure what's up with that. Not like our valvetrain is adjustable.....

I have a 2001 2500 V10. It’s without a doubt the best truck I’ve owned to date. I’ve had it for 13 years, pulled a 5th wheel over the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico countless times, used it to pull construction trailers, etc. It’s a beast! But... I’ve never gotten anywhere near 12 mpg pulling a trailer of any size, more like 12-14 empty on the highway, 7-8 around town, and 5-7 towing. I recently bought a 2500 w/6.7 Cummins. If it’s as good as the old one, I’ll be very happy! And... I’ve run 10w30 conventional oil in it from day one.

Just took the V10 out on its maiden voyage (with me anyway) for a 100 mile round trip at highway speeds, wow was i impressed! I don't know if these V10s have a sweet spot for mpg or power peak, but it just wanted to keep climbing Lol. I ran it about 60mph and it felt like it was holding it back! Anyway it on polished off a 1/4 of a tank of gas so that didn't hurt my feelings at all. It shifted hard, but i think that is the towing kit the previous owner had put in and it didn't put out alot of cabin heat, but its extremely cold here.

Owen, with my truck, the gauge is usually below the halfway point and that is with a 195 degree thermostat. Make sure your vents are operating correctly, as they operate off vacuum. A vacuum leak can affect its operation.

I never thought about the vacuum lines, thanks.
I noticed it will get warmer if im sitting at a stop light or at idle. An x-girlfriend of mine had a 99 Durango SLT 4x4 and it had horrible heat too.

i have a tire question, my truck has these tiny 215/85/16 highway tires, can i go to like a 235/85/16-AT? I will be hauling a gooseneck trailer with equipment and heard the duals can touch if the tires are to big?

Temp door is controlled by a cable. Where the air blows, is vacuum controlled. You likely have an air pocket in the heater core, a common problem on the 2nd gen trucks.

Tire store should be able to advise you on what tires will properly fit. Also, take a look at what they came with stock.

That makes sense about the air pocket, previous owner just had a new bigger radiator installed along with a fan cooled trans cooler.
It even has a trans temp gauge unless that is factory?
The truck came factory with 215s but they look like matchbox car tires under the huge fender wells Lol.

No trans temp gauge from the factory. So, that's aftermarket. (and good to have for a tow vehicle.)

Check what tires were optional on the trucks.
