Default Dash and tail lights out

I have a 1997 Ram 3500 with the Cummins. I recently pulled the dash out to replace the cracked dash and went ahead and changed the heater core and evaporator while i was at it. Before this project my lights use to shut off after about 30 minutes. The truck has done this for some time and last time i just replaced the headlight switch and harness. So while we had the dash out I changed the headlight switch again. At first everything seemed to be working. But once i turned the dome light on the dash and tail lights quit working. I can get them to work if i hold the light switch in between the off and running light detent on the switch. once you let the switch fall into the detent of running lights or headlights they go off. I have seen many threads about this but one has seemed to figure this out. any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a thread by moparfanatic on this exact problem. Look up his thread for the fix.
