Default Check engine light is on...

In my 01 Ram 5.2 litre.
It came on about 52,000 miles. I just changed the plugs, no problems.

Now whats the drill again?
I disconnect the negative cable for 10 seconds or ten minutes?
Some guy at work (Ford guy) told me to take off both cable ends and touch them together to reset the light.

Thought I'd ask you guys before I have to jam a $$$ electrical part up his *ss.[:@]

Never heard of touching them together. I have used the unhooking the positive one for about 10 minutes. But if you are close to a Autozone they can run you codes and restet it for free with their machine. I think alot safer then touching them together, would be your luck there would be a back feed of voltage that would fry something.

When I changed my plugs the CE light never came on.....[sm=confused06.gif]

Do the ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON thing with eh ignition just for fun...

But anyways just disconect the neg battery cable for 10-15 mins to reset the codes.

well first off...your main concern should be finding out what the code is and troubleshoot the problem..instead of jumping into clearing the code itself. with your key in the ignition... turn it on off on off on..(with out starting the truck) mainly your cycling through the off possition to the on possition fast.. and your digital odometer will read a code..most likley a P0XXXX code..after the codes are displayed .. it will say P0-DONE-- get that code or codes and post them on here and we can tell you what they mean... dont reset them quit yet.. ODBII is a very usefull tool in doing maintence on your truck and finding the cause of problems with the vehicle that dont even show any symptoms. very important to find out what the code is... more then likley its a vacume leak...have you filled your truck up or put gas in it recently? get them codes and we can help you from there. if you really want to erase the CEL.. disconnect the neg. cable off your battery and then turn your key to the run position for 10 mins... (its really only like 60 secs. but mine acts funny sometimes so its better to wait a few mins) turn it the key off and reconnect the terminal... the nut on the terminal should be a 10mm ..
