Unhappy 3.9 - 5.2 Swap Concerns/Worries

I finally got the v8 delivered to me today but the more I look into it the more concerned I get. I really want this engine to run, but my concerns are: I have no idea how many miles are on the engine itself so its a gamble to guess how much this thing has been romped on, and the wiring harness I got was free due to it being cut in a vital spot and I do not know how to fix that since I do not have the other end of it with me.
I've heard around that I can use my 3.9 harness and splice 2 more injectors but my question is, is splicing two more injectors going to make the v8 run well if I had the full 5.2 harness or does it not matter? Is there also anyway I can figure out the mileage this engine has on it?
And if my v6 harness spliced with the 2 extra injectors does work, and I get the 5.2 computer, is that going to make the engine run poor?
I need to know if any of these methods will make my performance suffer and what to do so that my truck runs strong with little to no error

To get it to run the best I would get the 5.2l engine harness. Knowing the mileage on the engine, well there really isn't a way to tell.

So the spliced v6 harness won't work as well as the 5.2 harness?
The 5.2 computer should still be compatible either way shouldn't it? I'm running a 5spd manual

I'm not sure if it will work with the V6 harness unless I know the pinouts of both. Yes iyer would probably run better with the 5.2L harness

You can't just splice the injector wires, as all the injectors have their individual drivers at the pcm. Either you run wires from the pcm to injectors on your current wiring harness, or get harness that's for V8. And make sure you get the correct harness, as there is difference, IIRC '98 and newer has one temp sensor whereas the older has two.

Something you can do to check the condition of the "new" engine. Pull the plugs, see if they all look about the same color wise, coffee brown should be good. Then you can make a compression test. Engine on a sturdy pallet or something, wire the starter to battery and install smaller wire to activate starter. This way you can also listen to abnormal sounds from the engine.
Then you can pull the valve covers and oil pan to look for carbon buildup and sludge.
Oh yeah, and check the plenum condition.
