CD changer ?
Ok I was thinking of getting a cd changer for my 99 and was wondering if it will hook up to the factory radio. I have the cassete only model and don't want to go with an atermarket radio if I can help it.
The only way I know how to do that is to buy an aftermarket cd player. I had similar thoughts about my 95 dodge and i had to go with a aftermarket. I just wouldn't go right out and buy a cd player I would ask around first and then buy. You might be able to but I have the same stock radio.
Just did a search for you on crutchfield.com and no add on cd-changers work with factory radio. I did find this one though. I have this in my wifes dodge and it rocks. It plays mp3's and burned cds..

you can get an aftermarket cd changer and have it work to your factory deck.. the only way to do it is utilizing something called an FM modulator. what it does is it pretty much turns your cd changer into a mini radiostation. when you turn on your changer the sound runs the the fm modulator and you can tune your radio into 1 of 3 optional statiosn...usually the lower stations that arnt ever used by broadcasting radiostations such as 88.9 etc etc etc... and the changer will play through your radio... the ups and down... easy to install and anyone can use it... but the sound quality is poor .... if you really want a decent system.. id suggest gettin a decen aftermarket deck that has changer controls built in.... witch makes the changer "hardwired" or dedicated to the deck.. and you dont ahve to have a seperate remot control to control the changer..the controls are routed through the deck making it really easy to use the system and sounds 1000000 times better!!! if your interested i can suggest really decent decks and changers if this is route you are thinkin abotu going!!!!
Sounds like aftermarket is my only option unless I break down and pay for factory unit with cd but hate to pay what everyone is asking for a used unit. So what is the best option for a decent aftermarket? I would like to get a double din if anyone still makes one just don't like the cheesy look of most adapter kits.
Yeah you can get an aftermarket cd changer with an fm modulator then you have a little box with the controls you can mount wherever.

I have had two sonys and both of them modulated through the fm radio. This current one has a slight buzz when you have the radio really loud. Not annoying at all but noticable if your cranking it. I had to buy a new radio in the ram that had an AUX in plug. Alpine makes a nice one and I run my ipod as a direct connection. No sound loss at all. Just so you know cd's have been working there way to extinction. Im sure some people will have them for along time to come but you cant beat a 60 gig ipod with your whole music collection on it. I used to burn mps cds with 10 albums per cd. My wife bought me an ipod last year and there is no way I could ever go back to cds. If you are an apple hater creative labs has some nice players too. Anyhow my point is if your going to spend some cash dont over look the mp3 players. The cost would be the same and youd get more. The little Ipod nano that everyone is breaking and thinking they should sue apple for runs about 200 bucks and is very impressive. I can email you if you want any more info.....
My vote is for a mp'3 player and a new radio with a direct AUX connection.
But its your money..

I guess I will do some serious checking into aftermarket. My sons toyota has the ipod hook up and I know they are really good (not an apple hater just a apple computer hater) but I really listen to mostly radio just too old or lazy (or maybe cheap) to buy too many cd's or pay for alot of downloads but I think I will make sure my next stereo has the ipod hook up cause I am a techy at heart (and job for that matter for those of you who didn't catch it I am a field service engineer for Lockheed Martin working on F16 flight simulators so I get to play video games for a living). Do you know who makes the best adapter kits for the single din? That is something I would have to have I am very picky about my baby and don't want no junk on her. BTW Zeek I want to thank you for the flowmaster sound track I went out and put a delta flow 40 on ine and it sounds great!
