Default Tires

I want to get mud-terrains because pretty much my whole town is wetlands, although only about 50% of the trails are really-really wet. The thing is, I don't want to have to drop coin on a new set of rubber once or twice a year.

Would I be better off just going with some bfg A/T's? I was looking at a package deal for about $1400 that comes with Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials and was wondering what kind of milage these get.

Otherwise, what do you thing are some of the longest lasting M/T's out there?

I have super swamper SSR radials (35x12.50) on mickey thompson classic locks and together the wheels and tires were only 1500 and i love em they get great wear and are incredible off road. BFGs are good i just think they are overpriced but you do get an extreme amount of wear with them they last forever but there are def. MTs that get good wear that are not to exspensive just shop around and do your homework

I'm not very concerned about price, I just want the best tire for my money.

I think I'm just going to go with some 33" BFG A/T's. They have some good reviews and will last close to 60,000 from what I've read.

I'd go with BFG MT's I've heard of people getting 40k + out of them and the ride decent. Not the quietest but not the loudest either I like the sound of them. They do fairly well in the mud and on pavement.

I've heard nothing but bad about the AT's in the mud.

I love this question. It gives me a chance to plug mickey thompson. They should give me a few free sets for all nice things I say about them. Anyway the BFG's are good tires so you cant go wrong if you buy them... BUT - and I speak for me only - Everytime I look at a truck I see the damn things. (bf tires that is) They are clone tires. I have heard many members rant about the on/off road ones suck in the mud. BF did come out with a new tire called the Krawler I think. Guess what. It looks just like a baja claw with the sidebiters.

I had a set of Baja claws and they were the best tires I have ever owned. I had them on a 2wd ranger and I went from getting stuck everywhere to pulling people out cause they are stuck. The v shaped tread cuts through the water on the road like a speedboat. These are very hard to hydroplane (sp) They have insane mud traction and great snow traction. Plus they just look damn cool. Now for all the good you have to accept some bad.

There have some road noise. - If you drive alot of highway this is not for you-
They are a heavy tire and if you go up from stock size you might have to regear.

Other than those two things I would never buy anything but the claws for my ram. I tried to get some 33's but they cost to much to ship to germany. So I wait till next summer.

The tire is a softer rubber and it will wear slightly faster. But soft rubber will give you more dry traction. I had my set for 2 years and there was very little wear. Now the ranger is a lighter truck but you wont be buying new tires every year if you buy the mickeys.

Anyway heres a picture of the tires and a link to my ranger section with more pictures.

Good luck... - end ranting --

Zeek, thanks for the help. I know what your are saying though about the BFG's probably 90%of everyone at my school runs them. I would like to get the Baja's because they look so damn cool and theyu sound like and amazing tire in the mud and snow, but with a 1/2 ton truck and a mudder like that, tread life still seems like it would be an issue.

Well if I didnt have the darn weight restriction here in germany I could have told you how they wear. Anyway good luck to ya and remember BF and Mickey are just two tire companys. If you do a search in the 2nd generation forums on TIRES you can pull up a ton of threads about this topic. A few guys were posting pictures of tires and there are many nice companys out there.

See ya

I just got the Goodyear MTR's. Agressive tread pattern, and did well in the snow we recently had. I did research before buying them and read they will get about 40-45k mikes out of them when rotated every 3k miles or so. Other than that I'll have to let you know in about 20k miles or so as to how they are doing.

Well I got BFG AT's and finally got to play in some snow this weekend with them for the first time. They seemed to work great. I played around a lot in 2wd and the would dig in the snow and sling **** everywhere. I am very happy with them and have been told thats its possible to get up to 60k out of them.
