steering box leaking

Default steering box leaking

my 97 steering box is leaking around the pitman arm, has anyone replaced their seal and could give me some insight

I did mine. Its pretty easy. Go buy the kit at a local parts store

1. Remove the nut on the steering box.
2. Pull the pitman arm down (pain in the butt sometimes!)
3. Theres a snap ring up inside the gear box. Scrap the gunk off or it and you can see it and take it out.
4. Put a bucket under the gearbox. Start the truck and turn the wheels to either of the locks and give it a bit of a good shove. This makes alot of presure in there and the old seal will pop right out. Also loose alot of fluid, thus the bucket.
5. Press the new seal up in there.
6. Replace the snap ring, make sure its all the way up there and is sitting flat.
7. Push the pitman arm back on.
8. Put the nut back on.
9. Refill the power steering pump with ATF
10. Test drive.
