I replaced the trans line without the check valve. It doesn't really seem to have fixed it. What I have noticed now is that when the OD light on the dash comes on and you push the button in the column it doesn't seem to respond the way it should. It seem to be intermittent when it goes on / off. I'm pretty sure it should it should go on and off when you push it, I took it out and checked it with an ohmmeter and it didn't seem to operate like it should. So I replaced it but still have the same problem.

My first 2nd gen Ram did this. Would drop out of O/D, I could hit the button, it would try to shift back into O/D, then drop out, sometimes it wouldnt even drop back in.
I never got a tans light of any kind, ( this was my '97 1500 4x4 5.9L)
Finally gave up, took it to my trans guy, sure enough, it was overheating, and was doing what its supposed to do. I never did find out if the check valve was the culprit, but he confirmed it was getting way too hot.
Problem is, in your case, if the check valve was causing issues, it also lets other things go bad in its wake. Fluid starvation does alot of damage pretty quickly.
You said that the button wasnt acting correctly too? You said you replaced it? If so, I'm thinking that maybe the trans is or has gotten hot and it's either trying to protect itself, or been damaged.
Cant say for sure if this is your problem, but I have had this similar situation....

I think checking trans temp, or better yet, monitoring it, and see what it says when the problem presents itself.

I already replaced the throttle position sensor just to see. Didn't help. The only other problem I see in any of the threads are the sensors in the valve body but I'm trying to see why that could cause the light to turn off / on intermittently. It still seems that the light on the dash would turn off and on with the switch. I don't think it is the overheating because it will do it when cold and warmed up. Sometimes it operates normally and sometimes it doesn't. But I'm still wondering why I have no trans overheat light on my dash.

I apologize. I just checked and I do have a trans overtemp light. It does turn on when you cycle the key and then goes off normally. But I have never seen this light turn on while driving.

Does this seem like this could be the solenoids in the trans needing replaced? I have no problem doing that but would like to be as positive as possible before buying these solenoids.

A failing solenoid should set a code.

PCM will disable O/D before the trans gets hot enough to turn on the light in the dash. You need to see what temp your trans is running at, when O/D drops out.

No dtc codes. No trans temp light. Will have to find a scanner that can monitor trans temp. Is there any accurate way to measure the trans temp without a scanner? Is it possible the sensor that measures the trans temp has gone bad (or intermittent). Is the sensor that measures trans temp in the governor solenoid? This might explain why the OD light goes on and off and switches in and out of OD.
