Default 46RE problems

Hello all,

I am a new member and this is the first post for me.

Anyways,

I am having issues with my 46RE in my 2000 Ram 1500 360 4x4. I have to go past park to get the truck into park, as well as having to go a bit past reverse to get it into reverse. I have checked the linkage and I found the issue to be where the linkage meets teh Transmission. More specifically the shaft that goes into it. It doesnt seem to be the rooster comb since I can shift just have a ton of play and a new rooster comb doesnt have splines that the linkage connects too. Does anyone have a recommendations for what is wrong and how hard it would be to fix?

Thank you

Where the linkage hits the lever on the trans. Does the shaft going into the trans wobble? Or is it just the linkage at the lever that is sloppy? I think there are other bushings in the linkage further upstream from the trans as well. If one is bad, pretty sure bet any others aren't real far behind.

The lever on the trans has no play ( the splined part). Yes the shaft going into the trans wobbles. the linkage has a very slight play but not enough for any concern to be raised. They honestly don't seem to bad for being 19 years old and 220k miles. That being said, it is the second transmission in this truck. I didnt replace it but the two owners ago did.

If you don't already have one, grab the service manual for your truck from here. There is another thread in the same section there, that has parts manuals as well. Grab that one too, then browse thru it, and see if there is a bushing for that shaft, and how much of an ordeal is it going to be to replace. (if it simply inserts from the top, that's easy, if you have to pull the whole thing apart.... well, not so much. )
