Default Trans problem

I got a 2000 dodge 2500 5.9 gas, 46re trans problems, gotta get the rpms up to shift from 1st to 2nd, on a flat road or downhill it’ll shift to second then jump right to third, going up hill get the rpms up let it shift to 2nd, it’ll jump right back to 1st at about 4800 rpms, been told by numerous people it’s a pressure valve solenoid, once it’s in 3rd and you’re just slowly cruising the 4 wheel drive lever on the floor will start to vibrate, what other year 46re’s will fit or could I put something else in it?

Just change the electronics first. Get the Borg Warner heavy duty solenoid set. (governor pressure sensor, and solenoid) You can also get them with the trans output speed sensor for a few bucks more, and I think that's a worthwhile investment. You'll need six quarts of fluid, and a filter kit to change 'em, and while you are in there, it would make a lot of sense to also adjust the bands. (procedure is in the service manual, which you can download from here, but, ignore the settings the manual recommends. Torque on to 72 INCH pounds, then back 'em off two full turns. Tighten the jam nut.)

As long as you have the pan dropped check the overdrive accumulator spring on the valve body, they break a lot and can cause problems as well. $5 part
