Default 98 ram 1500 shifting issues

Driving home on a 90 mile trip tonight with 2 four wheelers and my truck just lost all its will. Started out where it would get up and go but definitely sluggish to pretty much just puttering along the highway at 30 to 35 mph at 2k rpms as to not do too much damage. It didnt wanna come out of first gear it felt like or maybe 2nd gear. Ended up having it towed home after trying for 35 miles. A few things to note the check engine light was flashing off and on for a few minutes then became solid. Secondly tranny and engine fluids look clean as the day they were poured. Any ideas?

CEL flashing usually indicates a cylinder misfire. You need to read the codes, and see what it is whining about.

I couldn't agree more. However I pulled over and disconnected the battery in Hope's the pcm would reset and hopefully bring me out of what felt like limp mode.... CEL went off but problem still persists.

Read codes anyway. See if anything interesting comes up.

Make sure you are getting power to the trans as well....

Mine does the same thing but I shut it off and restart it and it's fine again for a while.
