Default 2nd gen dodge ram ecu

So I am in need of a new ecu. It's a Cali one but will putting in a federal one hurt anything? It's a 1997 dodge ram 3500 8l v10 gas. And if I do need a Cali ecu then do you guys have a recommended business to buy from. Thanks

I am not sure what the difference is between cali, and federal emissions on the V-10 back then. I think it may have been just a couple extra O2 sensors after the cat... (cats?) If you have emissions testing, the fed pcm will fail a california test.

Which company to get one from? That is a really good question. None of them have a good reputation, it's pretty much luck of the draw. You may get one that works, you may not. You may go thru several that each have a different problem. Or they may all have the same problem.... There just isn't a company out there that DOESN'T have a bunch of bad reviews...... Could check on EBay, see if anything comes up there from a seller with a good feedback score.
