I have a 2000 ram and I noticed today while it was raining that under my dash where the E brake release is that it’s dripping from there does anybody have any clue on how to fix that ? Also my heater core is going out can you reach it from the top of the dashboard I just have one of the slip on covers that I can take off if that is the case

You may have a leak around the windshield. I had a truck that had had the windshield replaced and they didn't do a good job. It was leaking at the top but running down inside the pillar and out the bottom. Removing the trim I saw a small gap. I got some flowable clear silicone sealant and that took care of it. Otherwise, it might be your a/c drain is stopped up and water is building up inside the dash.

As for the heater core, I've never replaced one on a second gen truck. Look on Youtube and I'm sure you'll find a couple, at least, videos on someone replacing theirs.

I had a similar problem with water dripping on my 96 when it was raining. Turned out a piece of foam weatherstripping had fallen off, right at the back edge of the hood on the cowl. When the hood is closed, it pressed down on the foam and sealed the gap. I made a new piece up out of some foam and used silicone in place to hold it. Stopped the leak

I frigging hate water leaks!!!

at the dealer I worked at I Had a 2005 or 6 brand new Dakota, like 13k and the new car guys did EVERYTHING to try and fix it but they couldn’t, they pulled the whole dash and put sealer around every gap they could see on the firewall........still leaked when she parked it in her driveway over night!!

then I got called into the office with her, the general manager, service manager and the Chrysler rep. They asked me to see if I can find the leak, one chance, otherwise the Dakota will be bought back

so I asked her to explain the problem as if it was the first time she walked into the dealership......the rep barked out “it leaks!! Just fix it!” I turned and looked at him with a hard stare and said, “I asked her!! Not you!!”

he shut up and she explained where she parks and when it happends, I noticed a little hand jesture she made when referring to her driveway

nobody else noticed it

the jesture told me her driveway is on a hill, So I told her I’ll take a look and she can pick it up tonight, it WILL be fixed! All 4 of them thought I was crazy and
when she left I got her address and drove up to her house and yes!! It’s a steep hill she parks on with the front faceing up

long story short, I duplicated her driveway with a floor jack and the front end realy high and the water was dripping from the plastic squirter nozzle into the air intake to the ac system at the base of the windshield. A little black silicone fixed her problem!!

i hate water leaks!! I hate them so much that my project trans van roof leaked all over so I LINEXED spray in bed liner the WHOLE roof!!

I have water on BOTH floor boards and can't find the leak. The headliner has no sign of leaks, door panels are clean and even had my evap blown clear. Won't know if that fixed the problem until I get a heavier rain. right now I am in the middle of pulling my carpet out to dry because in 30 degree weather, it won't do it outside.

Things that cause water intrusion on 2nd gen trucks:
- cab lights
- door seals
- window track seals
- third brake light seal
- ac dryer drain on firewall
- heater core

The dash needs to be at least tipped forward over the seats to access the heater core. But you need to be very skinny and careful. If you don't have a solid dash already, damage will probably happen.

I ran into that same problem meself. My problem was the rear window liner. Right where the weatherstripping runs into the recess on the roof, it leaks thru the space from the back of the cab to the floor. Try a bead of ultra black sealant on both recesses of the rear window weatherstrip as well as the third light.

My father was the most mechanically disinclined person you'd ever meet. He always told me though to check the simple and cheap things first. If that's it, you're done. If not, THEN you can spend a lot of time and money on it. Even though he couldn't turn a wrench to save his soul, he trained as a radio man in the army before WW2. I watched him make a radio out of scrap. A couple of tubes and the coils and even speaker were hand made. It still works. A bear to tune but dad built it by hand so it stays here.
