Look at the PCM and see if it says anything about a special Mopar one or anything. Or if anything is pluged into the PCM thats not factory. That should tell you if you have a chip or performance PCM.

I doubt it has been reprogramed with a hypertech programer or anything. On those things you can only have one car upgraded at a time. So if somebody bought one, programed the PCM with it, that means they can't reprogram another Ram with it untill they unprogram the first one. Sounds kinda confusing [&:]

Part # for the 98 5.9 federal 4x4 pcm is P5007121(P5007122 in CA), on the p/s fire wall. If you dont see that # it is stock. If it has a JET stage I/II it will be piggybacked between the connector closest to the engine and has large letters (cant miss it)

YOU DO NOT WANT A JET CHIP OF ANY KIND!!! (I hope Im not being too subtle here/NO JET!!!!)

Things that will help depending on how much you want to spend and if you install them yourself
52mm fastman, MP PCM or a Hypertech, 1.7roller rockers & 410 gears if you dont already have them. When installing the 52mm tb, remove the tb spacer, its not helping.

Best of luck and welcome aboard

yea the tb spacer adds no performance or gains of any kind... id take it off and grind it down and make a cool key chain out of it..thast pretty much all its worht... a new tb will give you better throttle response and a nicer smoother idle... if you really want to spend the cash.. heck out the hypertech hyperpac... ive been dreaming and drooling about this thing ever since zeek said he's getting one... ther are crazy pricey.. but its really cool all the features it has... u may want to think of an exhaust system to help out that CAI .. if its inhaling better youd want to help out its exhaling.... any decent brand cat back with 2 1/4 inch outs will help out performance and mpg... keeping withing 2 1/4 dia limits willl keep your low end tq aswell... thats what you after .. becarefull though... i have to say that modding our trucks bcomes a sickness..a desiese rather and is really hard to stop after your start... i mean .. hell..look and indys truck.... he just cant leave his alone... we need to start a support group for that guy
