Default Headers and exhaust tick prevention/fix

Hey guys so my mechanic wouldn't do the header installation on my 5.9 360 so I definitely decided I want to do the swap because I notice a slight tick coming back after I got my driver side manifold swapped and one of the taps removed + rethreading done a few years ago. Was thinking about trying it myself, but dont mind spending the extra money to make sure everything goes right. I found a reliable diesel shop close by and they'll do the swap I've decided to get pacesetter shorty headers put on for some more low end with some dead soft aluminum gaskets. What sort of sound would I get with my setup? I dont want my truck to loud and want to stick to a nice deep sound. Have a nice converter on along with an aftermarket glasspack muffler to a 5" tip and the OEM air intake. Would I be good with an ordinary tune? Want to make sure will run correctly with the headers. Not planning on doing anything else to the truck that isnt a necessity for a few years or so, have done a lot of suspension and front end upgrades including the steering box and Luke's link for the track bar so dont want to bother with a cam or anything. The transmission was rebuilt as well

PCM won't care about headers, or what exhaust you have. So long as it gets it's input from the O2 sensors, it'll be happy.

Headers, in and off themselves, won't change exhaust that much. (as far as noise levels go.) It's the rest of the system that determines that. Larger pipe gives a deeper tone. A glass pack WILL be loud.... just the nature of the beast.

My glass pack is much quieter than the Flowmaster 50 deltaflow I ran previously. It's super quiet in every gear and I can't even hear it on the hwy. But what really quieted it down was adding a 18" pipe behind the GP. Just like an instrument, the size and length of the pipe makes all the difference.

It's just about right where I want it, before I had the exhaust redone it was way to loud for my liking, there were barely any pipes and the cat was rotted. Then when I got it redone to a 3", was to quiet with the factory muffler and aftermarket converter that was put on, the dude didnt even take out the broken bolt so I had to take it to my mechanic in NJ instead to fix it because the other dude only put on a new manifold but didnt change the gasket or take the broken bolt out. So I had another shop cut off the muffler and put on a glasspack and now it's nice and deep sounding, but just want to get rid of the tiny tick that there is and get some more low end now. Was hoping for a little bit of a deeper sound with the headers but I'm sure I'll be happy with it.

The tick is an exhaust leak, right? Or are you not sure what's causing it? If so, then yeah, get that fixed and go from there.

The "low end" you speak of - is that tone or power?

When I cut off my flowmaster after it rusted out being nearly 15 years old, I just had to start it with nothing after the cat and it was stupid loud! So I drove it to town. GRINNNNNNNNNN

But I threw on the $20 glasspack and it was much quieter but had a weird 'wet' sound, not the nice 'drier' poppy sound the flowmaster gave it. People say it sounds like a classic car. Not what I wanted but for the price, I've ran it for nearly four years now. Will get a real muffler here soon again. But I did notice more giddyup with the GP versus the flowmaster with duals so that has me hesitant to get a muffler again.

Yea it's a slight exhaust leak from the manifold, and low end power. Was aiming to just get a bit of power from 0-2000rpms, remove the slight tick that isnt really noticeable in the cab but it still isnt good for the truck, and a more interesting but non crackling sound

Dont really want any popping or crackling, the way my exhaust is I only get some when overdrive is off and im decelerating which is how I want to keep it. I prefer just a clean deep roar.
