Default 2001 ram 1500 lights

Hey everyone I am new to this thread and I have a new to me 2001 ram 1500 with the 318, my question is my truck has the cab lights ontop and I'm trying to figure out was there a factory option for cab lights on the 1500 or are they probly aftermarket? Also how do I tell if I have DRL pre installed in the truck? It is a sport edition with the fog lights and I have the **** that you pull out to turn them on, any information is appreciated thanks!!

DRL is day time running lights, I'm just wondering how they wired the cab lights into the headlight switch, I turn it one click for what I think is the day time running lights because the cab lights come on and then one more click to turn on the headlights, and then you pull it for the fog lights, it just seems like its wired in factory on this truck

Day time running lights were never stock in the US. You must be from Canada or ?

Simple, cab lights are tapped into the parking lights. That's what I did so it acts factory. One click on the switch is P for parking lights which includes any and all clearance lights and apparently 'DRL', then two clicks is headlights.

Just pull the switch to see how things are tapped or wired.

Lights on the roof we’re options for 2500HD and 3500 only (from memory).

DRL (lights ‘on’ during the day) I believe was standard on all Canadian vehicles, and an option in the US.

I am in Canada yes but the truck is actually from the US and ok I understand now they must have been added on after the factory thank you, when I put on the fog lights they work with the high beam and low beams, shouldn't they turn off when the high beams are put on?

I think originally, yes, the fog lights would turn off when the hi-beams are on. But if these were wired aftermarket, they could stay on. There were lots of threads here in the old days where people wanted to change something to have fogs stay on with hi-beams. It was a common topic. I wouldn't worry about it. There's no way you're blinding anyone today when all the cars have super ridiculous LED laser retina burning headlights. I keep getting blinded every year and every year I add better bulbs or upgrade something. I finally ordered crazy bright LEDs to install as "fog" lights. I have to keep fighting the battle . . .

I want to upgrade my lights aswell but first I need to understand what going on with this truck, here's another odd thing, the truck is a sport but someone put in non sport headlights? The truck has stock headlights but only one bulb and the cut off the plug for the other plug and duct tape the ends, is there a advantage to going from the 2 bulb headlights to the one? Thanks your very helpful!

Hmmm, no. That's weird. There must be a sordid past to that truck like a wreck or someone threw on the Sport grill and bumper to a non-sport truck for the look. Or are they the clear double lenses but someone cut the harness off from two to one socket? Any chance to get some pics of the housings and harness? I'm not sure I understand what is going on.

Probably previous owner got cheap and replaced the headlights with first ones that came across, in this case the non-sport ones.
