I’ve cleaned the iac and egr valves and have no idea what else could cause the problem, thoughts?

97 shouldn't even have an egr valve.

How many miles on it? Last time it had a tune-up? Getting any codes?

it’s a 96 motor out off a 99 and was put in my 97 and it runs fine tuned about 4 years ago by previous owner and the truck has about 255,000 miles and no ignition codes come up except that I’ve unplugged the battery (which I have)

96 shouldn't have EGR either.......

How's fuel pressure? One of the typical culprits for your symptoms is a failing crank position sensor. Try and find a genuine mopar sensor.

Dealer should still have them. If you can find a part number, (rock auto should have it somewhere) and search on that, you can find them for cheaper than dealer prices.
