This is so strange. Could it be a discrepancy?

I was reading the manual of my ‘96 RAM 2500, and it called for 5 gallons (22qts) of coolant, but only 1 1/2 gallons fit. I flushed the entire system. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Did you follow the procedures in the FSM ? 5 gallons would imply the truck is a 5.9 V8 which has block drain plugs.

As DerTruck said unless you drain the block you will get no where near that 5 gallons.

Was the heat control on hot? Between coolant in the block and heater core, you're holding a lot of liquid in the system.

it sure was! I followed procedure every step of the way. I drained the fluid via petcock on the radiator.
